Visitor Centres
The key to enjoying and understanding this unique and fascinating area is to visit one or more of the Levels and Moors Visitor Centres, which are supported by the Levels and Moors Partnership. Complementing one another, each Visitor Centre specializes in an interesting and traditional feature of the area.
Willows and Wetlands Visitor Centre ( 01823 490249)

Home to a family-run traditional willow growing and basket-making industry, established in 1819.
Specialises in: Features and traditions of the West Sedgemoor, River Parrett and Tone valleys. The centre takes its name from the willows (or “withies” as they are known locally), a naturally sustainable crop that is grown for the traditional basket-making industry. Exhibition also houses an RSPB display of the life of the heron.
Facilities: Free exhibition and video; basket-ware museum and guided tours; free parking, shop; tea rooms; toilets; partial disabled access.
Open: Exhibition: Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm. Tours: Monday to Friday between 11am and 12 noon and 2pm and 4pm (excl. public holidays).
The Tribunal: Glastonbury Lake Village Museum ( 01458 832954)

A Medieval merchant’s house located in the centre of Glastonbury, also home to the Tourist Information Centre.
Specialises in: Archaeological heritage of the nationally important Iron Age site of Glastonbury Lake Village. Displays of artefacts excavated from the Lake Village – a settlement providing an unparalleled insight into life in Southern Britain at the end of the first millennium BC.

Provides an opportunity to ’walk through history’ and appreciate the ancient landscape and wildlife of the Avalon Marshes.
Specialises in: Wetland history, archaeology and peat heritage; reconstructions of Iron Age roundhouses, log-boat and prehistoric wooden trackways; introduction to the Avalon Marshes.
Facilities: Educational tours by appointment; gift shop; free parking, toilets, restaurant in adjacent garden centre. Disabled access.
Open: Every day except Wednesdays, April to October 10am to 4.30pm.
Langport and River Parrett Visitor Centre ( 01458 250350)

Based in an old weighbridge building beside the River Parrett, the gateway to the South Somerset Moors.
Specialises in: Displays and exhibits about historic Langport, local industries, the River Parrett and local wildlife. The Discovery Room provides a hands-on opportunity to find out about the 50-mile River Parrett Trail as it crosses the wetlands to the sea.
Facilities: Free exhibition and education pack; free parking, shop and toilets; disabled access; cycle hire, sales and repairs facilities. Provides cycle route leaflets, walking route maps and guidebooks.
